HOW TO USE MEGADISC 8 - DOUBLE-CLICK ON THE ICONS AT WILL
***********************************************************************
There are no dramatic changes in using Megadisc this issue - to
display the text files, PRINTEXT is used again. Don't forget that
there is a HELP screen which you can find in the first menu (select
the ABOUT option now to see it); and once you've got the PRINTEXT
screen up, you can LOAD another text file or graphic, via a requestor.
So if you happen to have read this file, for example, and you want to
read a few articles without clicking this off and then opening up
another file's icon , select LOAD FILE, and once the requestor has
listed the contents of the disk, select ARTICLES and then select an
article, and click on OK. PRINTEXT comes to us courtesy Opher Kahane,
whose details are in the HELP screen of his program.
As usual, the ARTGALLERY graphics can be double-clicked to view
them just like everything else on the disk, (except where explained).
Some people have mentioned a difficulty in getting out of the
graphic screen - just a single click in the top left corner will do it.
If at first you don't succeed, try again, since there's an invisible
button up there and it's pretty small so it can be missed.
And that's about it - if you want to print out the entire text
contents of Megadisc, double click on the PRINTALLFILES icon in the
MD_INFO drawer, having made sure that your printer is ready and you've
got about 90 pages ready (there should be something for everyone!). To
print out a particular file, select PRINT from the PRINTEXT menu - a
requestor comes up, select the file you want to print (make sure it's
not an icon ".info" file) and hit OK, having made sure your printer is
ready. [Incidentally, the directory utility UTILIMASTER makes use of a
print utility called PURTY, and lets you print with skips for
perforations in fanfold paper. Leon Jarvis & Eric Holroyd have put
together a THEME DISK which is set up to run with Utilimaster - check
the "Recent_PD" in MD_INFO. PURTY also exists as a stand-alone PD
program.]
You'll see an icon in the PROGRAMS drawer (which has a lot of
other very good programs too) called WHATS_HERE - double-click it and
you'll get a list of all the files in the drawer. But you can also drag
that icon to any other place on the disk, and then double-clicking it
will also show the contents of the current drawer. If you want to use
the icon on your own disks, all you need is the WHATS_HERE icon and the
XICON program in the root directory of the disk, as it is on this disk.
Have a look at the files in the MD_INFO drawer for more info about
MEGADISC.
